Inspired by a recent trip to Yellowstone with an impromptu side trip to Sandy Wash Basin in northern Colorado, I got to experience the beautiful wild mustangs roaming free. It was such an exhilarating experience! Although this painting has a river running through it, I didn’t see any rivers flowing through the mustangs territory. In fact, I had heard that there was a drought in the area several months after we returned home. I also read that many of the horses had been rounded up and removed from the area due to the drought. This greatly saddened my heart. If only water had ran through their land like my painting, they would be “Forever Free.”
